Hey, Ma! Look at that huge military vehicle that I am standing very, very close to! The boats of Xochimilco. Part of the Independence Day festival was that all the military might of Mexico drove past our hotel. At the protests there was a man doing some sort of Aztec ritual with people who wanted it. This was the most obvious pagan ritual we saw in Mexico City, and perhaps the moment of saddest spiritual darkness that we saw. We went down to the Zocalo (the central square of Mexico City) where the heart of the Independence Day protests took place. Flags, chanting and very polite protesting took place there all day. My favorite garbage truck in any country: it says Krista with one of the Mexico City stinters. You can't keep a good man down. Oops! I guess they were. Hey-- why is everyone smiling? Surely they aren't trying to dunk Matt, are they?
