Ministry Description

Bob McGurty and his wife Twyla joined HealthCare Ministries on January 1, 2005 where he serves as Director. His oldest son Bobby is a student at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, while Joe is a senior at Hill Crest High School in Springfield where he is the chief engineer for their TV program.

Bob was born and raised in New Jersey. After completing High School in 1979, Bob joined the U.S. Air Force where he came to know the Lord, met his wife and was called to the ministry. During his four years in the Air Force, Bob studied and worked both in medical laboratory and histopathology and became a lay leader of the Assemblies of God ministry to the military while serving in England. His wife Twyla was a medical assistant in the Air Force and later completed her nursing degree and is currently a registered nurse. After completing his Air Force assignment, Bob studied at Southeastern College and completed his BA from Gordon College in Biblical and Theological Studies and later a masters degree in education administration from Liberty University.

Bob, Twyla, Bobby and Joe served as Assemblies of God missionaries in the country of Bangladesh from 1989 to 2004. During their time in Bangladesh, the focal part of Bob’s ministry was both community development and the Bible School. He and his wife Twyla directed the Community Development Program (CDP) there for over 12 years. CDP is a grassroots ministry led by godly women who minister the gospel through meeting the needs of those around them. Bob also taught at the Bible School and served as Academic Dean for seven years and Bible School president for two years. The last five years of their ministry Bob and Twyla served as directors of Eurasia Compassion Ministries, which helped oversee the compassion outreach ministries for the 44 countries of Eurasia for the A/G.

Bob’s roots with HealthCare Ministries (HCM) go back to their original approval as medical missionaries in 1987. While in Bangladesh, they were heavily involved in overseeing medical evangelism teams as well as disaster relief work. In addition, Bob has been a member of the medical missions strategy committee since its inception in 1995 as well as a founding member of the HCM Focus Group. HCM is the medical missions outreach arm of the Assemblies of God and serves the needs of missionaries and national churches throughout the world. Thousands have come to know the Lord and many have been added to the church as a result of the efforts of HCM.

Bob believes that HCM is one of the most untapped resources of the Assemblies of God and is committed to seeing God move through this opportunity of medical outreach.
